Regina Schmidt was a first cousin of Charlotte Sommer. She was named after her grandmother, Regina Winklein Sommer.

Her parents were Anna Sommer Schmidt and Johann Schmidt.

Anna Schmidt was the youngest sister of Charlotte's father, William Sommer.
